Sexaholics Anonymous (SA) is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength, and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover. We do so by working the 12 steps and meeting regularly for mutual aid and support. If you are new to SA, we encourage you to contact us or attend one of our meetings.

What is a Sexaholic?

A sexaholic is someone who has taken himself or herself out of the whole context of what is right or wrong. He or she has lost control, no longer has the power of choice, and is not free to stop. Lust has become an addiction. Our situation is like that of the alcoholic who can no longer tolerate alcohol and must stop drinking altogether but is hooked and cannot stop. So it is with the sexaholic, or sex drunk, who can no longer tolerate lust but cannot stop.

Common Questions

Do I belong here?

The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop lusting and become sexually sober. If you think you might have a problem with sexual addiction, you're welcome to attend and see if SA is right for you.

What if I'm not sure I'm a sexaholic?

That's perfectly normal. Many of us weren't sure when we first arrived. Come to a few meetings, listen to others share, and see if you identify with their experiences. There's no pressure to label yourself. You can also take our self assessment test.

Will I have to share my story?

Absolutely not. Sharing is voluntary. You can attend meetings for as long as you want without ever speaking. When and if you're ready to share, you'll have that opportunity.

What about anonymity?

Anonymity is fundamental to SA. We use first names only, and what's shared in meetings stays in meetings. You may see familiar faces from your daily life - we maintain each other's anonymity outside of meetings.

Is this religious?

SA is spiritual but not religious. We reference a "Higher Power" or "God as we understood Him," but this can mean anything that works for you - the group, the universe, nature, or a traditional concept of God.

How much does it cost?

SA is completely free. We do, however, pass a basket for voluntary donations to cover meeting costs (room rent, literature, coffee), but contributing is entirely optional and anonymous.

Your Next Steps

Ready to take action? Here's what we suggest for newcomers.

1

Attend a Meeting

Find a meeting that fits your schedule and just show up. Try different meetings to find ones where you feel comfortable.

2

Get Phone Numbers

Connect with other members for support between meetings. Having people to call makes a huge difference.

3

Consider a Sponsor

A sponsor is someone with experience in recovery who can guide you through the 12 steps.

You Can Do This

Recovery is possible. People all around the world have found freedom from sexual addiction through the SA program. You don't have to do this alone, and you don't have to figure it all out at once.

"The paradox is that nothing changes until you accept what is. Once you accept what is, then change becomes possible."
